How is everyone doing?
As for me… I’m still plugging away on this journey to a healthier life. Like every journey, it has its ups and downs. Recently, I hit a plateau that lasted about a week and a half. I know that’s not very long, but when you’re working hard every day, it can feel like forever!
Then came Friday night.
I decided I was going to have a piece of Publix cake. Not just any cake—white cake with white icing. If you’ve ever had it, you know it’s heavenly. It’s tied with their carrot cake as my all-time favorite.
Every. Single. Bite. Was. Amazing.
My stomach, however, had a very different review.
Since increasing my GLP-1 dose, this was the first time I’d indulged in cake, and let’s just say my body made it crystal clear that it preferred healthier choices. I spent the next three days feeling sick as a dog with digestive issues and barely eating.
The silver lining? By the time I stepped on the scale Sunday evening, I had finally broken through my plateau and was down 3 pounds!
Now, before anyone starts adding “Publix cake” to their weight-loss plan… don’t. 😂 I can’t recommend my method. It was definitely a one-time experiment that I have no desire to repeat.
But here’s the lesson I’m taking from it: plateaus happen. They’re frustrating, they’re discouraging, and they can make you question whether all your hard work is paying off. The important thing is not to give up. Sometimes your body is just taking a little extra time before it decides to cooperate.
One thing I do need to focus on now is getting back to the gym. Between the daily thunderstorms, we haven’t been able to get to the pool, and I’ve really missed that extra activity. I think life has finally calmed down a bit, which means it’s time to get back on the elliptical. My plan is to be there tomorrow—or Saturday at the latest!
This journey has taught me that perfection isn’t the goal—progress is. There will be plateaus. There will be cake. There will be days when life gets in the way. What matters most is getting back up, making the next healthy choice, and continuing to move forward.
Here’s to celebrating the victories, learning from the setbacks, laughing at ourselves once in a while, and never giving up. We’ve got this! ❤️
