February 28, 2023 – One Bar – Blueberry Cobbler

When I decided to try different protein bars and “review” them, I didn’t realize how many delicious bars were out there. This has been a wonderful and tasty endeavor.

happen to be my favorite berry. I could eat them every day and be happy. When I saw that the One Bar had a blueberry cobbler flavor, I had to try it. It took a while for me to find them, but I finally hit the jackpot this weekend.

Look at how delicious this bar is.

It really does taste like the blueberry cobbler that your grandma used to make. The flavor is spot on. The consistency is chewy with a bit of a crunch. Altogether delicious. And filling. I ate half of one as a morning snack and, after two slices, I was satisfied.

How do the macros stack up? I think pretty good.

See if you can get your hands on one to try. I found mine at Walmart.

Have any protein bar suggestions for me? I’d love to taste-test your favorites.

February 16, 2023 – Protein Poppits snack

While searching for the next protein bar brand and flavor to try, I ran found these little bags of Power Crunch Protein Poppits. I thought it would be a nice change from the protein bars and they were only $1.98 at Walmart, so I grabbed two bags. The first bag I tried was the BBQ flavor.

I’ve never been a big fan of BBQ potato chips, so I went into this with my mind made up that they were not going to be good. Well, I was WRONG! These little crunchy balls of BBQ goodness are delicious. They are very barbecue flavored in a good way. You get the smokey, sweet, and tanginess of an actual barbecue. How do the macros stack up? Pretty good. One bag is 110 calories, 4.5g total fat, 5mg cholesterol, 430mg sodium, 3g carbs, and a whopping 15g protein!

But, are they crunchy? Take a look in the bag at these crunchy little nuggets of yum!!

Very delicious! Very crunchy! So flavorful that I couldn’t eat the whole little package in one sitting. I’m going to try them as a crouton on a salad or I might try them on a bowl of tomato soup.

Bottom line – These BBQ treats are yummy. I also have a bag of the ranch flavor, which I will review another day.

February 8, 2023 – Quest Protein Bar taste test- White Chocolate Raspberry

So today I tasted the white chocolate raspberry flavor of the Quest Protein Bar. First the macros:

Serving size 1 bar, calories 190, Fat 8g, saturated fat 3g, trans fat 0g, cholesterol 5mg, sodium 250mg, total carbs 22g, dietary fiber 13g, total sugars 1g, protein 20g.

The numbers look good but how does it taste?

DELICIOUS!!!! It reminded me of raspberry cheesecake. No artificial after taste. There was real raspberry in this bar. I would definitely eat this one again. I’ll have to try other flavors too.

Tomorrow I will be tasting a maple glazed donut One bar. I can’t wait.

Do you have any brands/flavors to suggest? Or maybe you have a good recipe for me to try. Let me know in the comments.

February 4, 2023 – Do you like protein bars?

I am looking for protein bar suggestions. Since breakfast is around 5:30 AM and lunch at work not happening until 1:00 PM or 1:30 PM, i sometimes get HANGRY at work. I need a pick me up snack between breakfast and lunch but I want it to be healthy. Cereal bars are too high in carbs.

Please list your favorite store bought bars as well as any recipes you love. You can put them in the comments or click on my contact info and send me a message.

Once I get a list I will start taste testing.

January 10, 2023 – Healthy substitutions

One of my go to healthy substitutions is to slice cucumbers and use them like chips or crackers.

100 grams of plain, unsalted potato chips has 536 calories.

100 grams of crackers (Ritz in this case) has 492 calories.

100 grams of sliced cucumbers has 15 calories.

See how many calories you can save by switching?

This little guy love cucumber slices.

Smart swaps are your friend.

January 3, 2023 – Two good days in a row

Today was a “rest” day. I did not go to the fitness center. Instead, I did several short cardio and strength exercise videos from the Wakeout app.

Wakeout helps me to work out the stiffness that occurs when you work a desk job. It gives stretches and exercises to get you moving during the work day. It will even let you schedule reminders to move.

My food choices today were excellent. Special K cinnamon pecan cereal with blueberries for breakfast. No sugar in my coffee and i even measured my sugar free creamer!

For my morning snack I had a cup of unsweetened tea and a Sargento balanced break. For my afternoon snack, I had a clementine. Delicious.

Lunch was shrimp, spinach, tomatoes, Kalamata olives over orzo with a squeeze of lemon. Yum!!

Dinner was two tacos loaded with lettuce and tomato with 2 oz of lean taco meat. Just a sprinkling of cheese to top them off. Yum.

I drank lots of water and had no sugary drinks.

It was a good day and I am proud of myself.

Have any good healthy recipes or tips you would like to share? What is your go to trick to keep yourself on track?

January 1, 2023 – Let’s start over

Happy New Year !!

Starting out on a positive note. Walked at the mall. Did chair yoga. Drank water. When we went out for lunch, I put half of my food in a to go box. Feeling tired but good. Tomorrow I hit the gym.

A good start.
